Spatial segregation impact on star formation in nearby dwarf spheroidal galaxies

چکیده

ABSTRACT Using our Hubble Space Telescope/Advanced Camera for Surveys (HST/ACS) observations of the recently found isolated dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxies, we homogeneously measured their star formation histories (SFHs). We determined SF rate as a function time, well age and metallicity stellar populations. All objects demonstrate complex SFH, with significant portion stars formed 10–13 Gyr ago. Nevertheless, middle ages (1–8 Gyr) are presented. In order to understand how parameters influence evolution dSphs, also studied sample nearest dSphs in different environment: (d < 2 Mpc); beyond Local Group (LG) virial radius (but within LG zero-velocity sphere); satellites M 31 located zone (300 kpc). archival HST/ACS observations, SFHs. A comparative analysis obtained allow us distinguish possible effect spatial segregation on scenario.

Star Formation Histories of Nearby Dwarf Galaxies

Properties of nearby dwarf galaxies are briefly discussed. Dwarf galaxies vary widely in their star formation histories, the ages of their subpopulations, and in their enrichment history. Furthermore, many dwarf galaxies show evidence for spatial variations in their star formation history; often in the form of very extended old populations and radial gradients in age and metallicity. Determinin...

Star Formation in Dwarf Galaxies

We explore mechanisms for the regulation of star formation in dwarf galaxies. We concentrate primarily on a sample in the Virgo cluster, which has HI and blue total photometry, for which we collected Hα data at the Wise Observatory. We find that dwarf galaxies do not show the tight correlation of the surface brightness of Hα (a star formation indicator) with the HI surface density, or with the ...

On star formation rates in dwarf galaxies

We present evolutionary synthesis models of starbursts on top of old stellar populations to investigate in detailed time evolution the relation between Hα luminosity and star formation rate (SFR). The models show that several effects have an impact on the ratio between L(Hα) and SFR. Metallicity different from solar abundance, a time delay between star formation and maximum Hα-luminosity, and a...

The Star Formation Relation in Nearby Galaxies

I review observational studies of the large-scale star formation process in nearby galaxies. A wealth of new multi-wavelength data provide an unprecedented view on the interplay of the interstellar medium and (young) stellar populations on a few hundred parsec scale in 100+ galaxies of all types. These observations enable us to relate detailed studies of star formation in the Milky Way to the z...
